We have been loving transforming our home over the past year, and the progress we’ve made so far is just the beginning. From renovating bathrooms to organizing the garage, every project has brought us closer to our dream home. Now, as we embark on the next phase of our renovation journey, we are filled with excitement. With a clear plan in place and a determination to make our vision a reality, we can’t wait to see the finished result. And in the meantime, we are taking on smaller projects around the house, starting at the front and working our way around, making every inch of our home reflect our unique style and #dearhome charm. The anticipation of seeing our home fully transformed is driving us forward, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
First up is the parlor. The house has two formal dining rooms, and even though we used our dining room so much in our old house, we decided that the kitchen nook would suffice and we would turn one of the dining rooms into a parlor, and the other dining room will be an extension of the kitchen to make it larger. The parlor is just a cosmetic update, which means #DearAhmad was up for the task. The parlor needs the following:
Paint
Scrap off popcorn ceiling
Move ceiling medallion from dining room 2, to the parlor and paint
New floors (keeping existing floors until we figure out what we are going to do with the parquet floors that covers the entry and living room)
Furniture/Styling
With a vision inspired by the moody lounges and speakeasy bars of New York City, we set out to create a room that exudes luxury and style. Ahmad’s desire for a dark and moody atmosphere led us to carefully select each element of the room from the dimmable chandelier to the upcoming addition of sconces for added ambiance. Picture a cozy banquette nestled in the corner, a vintage round table perfect for game nights, and two swivel chairs for guests to relax in. The space will be anchored by a soft, neutral rug, accented by a vintage armoire or marble top dresser transformed into a chic cocktail/mocktail bar. And to tie it all together, an oversized painting that I have been eyeing. Stay tuned as we bring this vision to life, one detail at a time.
THE PAINT COLOR
The color inspiration came from a coffee shop that is in New York. I love how the wood paneling in the shop was paired with deep hues of burgundy. Since our home has wood paneling everywhere, I thought oxblood would be a great color to go with as a base in our home. I want the entire house to flow and so you will see deep hues of burgundy in many rooms in the house as a nod to the color scheme of #DearHome. The paint color we went with was Sherwin Williams Polished Mahogany which has a deep brown hues with a hint of maroon, which makes it the perfect color for the parlor.
THE CHANDELIER
If you’ve seen my reel on IG, then you saw that I was trying to make a decision between the 1970’s chandelier that is original to the home, and the modern scalloped pendant. Both are completely opposite of each other and gives the room a different feel. After having #DearAhmad hold up the lights 30 million times, and actually have him and Sonny put up the scalloped pendant; I decided to go with the vintage chandelier. It’s original to the home, keeps the charm and character alive, and is stunning!
I hope you guys are loving the updates as much as I am enjoying putting Ahmad to work and making my vision come to life. Make sure to subscribe to #DearFam for updates. Chat soon!!!!
I feel like I have had this plan drawn out for the girls bathroom for months, and we are finally nearing completion. If you have been following along on our YouTube channel, then you know this bathroom was outdated with carpet, super narrow, and lacked charm and character. The layout wasn’t ideal, and it randomly
