“Does Work Life Balance Really Exist?” | VO. 3

I am going to start this off by answering the question at hand with a NO! We all want the work life balance lifestyle, but at least for me I often get caught up in the work life, and my personal life gets push to the back burner. Maybe it is because the career that I am in and for some reason in retail its like everyday is life or death. You miss one day its like the whole retail world goes into flames. It also could be because I take what I do very seriously, and love what I do so I give it my all. Before kids I was able to literally work all day and night. Being at work for 12 hour shifts just didn’t phase me because I had nothing else to do besides making money. Then when I started a family my priorities shifted, but of course at work you are still the “boss” and obligations are still the same.

I love to use the example of how I was working and there was manager that was suppose to close the store. Well, that manager did not show up for her shift. It was Halloween, and I was supposed to take the kids trick or treating. I was then in the position of being obligated to stay at work because its my duty to work if other people don’t show up; on the other hand my children always come first and I had promised to take them to get candy and have family night. Did I want to be that parent that makes promises and never show up? I couldn’t have my kids sitting by the door waiting for me to come home to take them, and as time go by mommy never shows up. It becomes a sticky situation, right!?

Then I started to think about it, some of us work to provide for our families, and others may work to build the career that they want. I am in the boat where both of those are my realities, but at the same time I am grateful to have a wonderful husband that understands what I do for a living and always steps in when I cant because I am working. So I guess to answer the question again, my answer is still NO!

Let’s fast forward to today. I am on maternity leave and this is one of the best feelings in the world. I am able to give my children a 100% of my time and energy and it feels good! They enjoy me being here, and are no longer asking me if I’m going to work in the morning and leaving them. I feel like I am complete and can actually get blog work done, be a wife, a mom, and I’ve even got my inbox down to 5 emails! I feel like I am winning at this point.

To get back to the topic at hand, I was being negative Nancy and saying NO to the whole work life balance situation, but at the end of the day we create our own balance. I am still trying to figure it all out, and its okay. I am not going to stress about it at this point, and I know the Lord has a plan for me. I just have to figure out how to have it all as I talked about in last weeks mom chat Monday post.

I would love to hear from you all! Do you think work life balance exist, or is it just something companies say that they are proud their company has to get you on board? or do we create our own balance between the two and make it work for us?

Talk to you guys later!!!! Don’t forget you can send in your Monday chat topic questions to [email protected]
