NYFW DAY 1 Recap

View Post jump arrow down

Let me go ahead and throw this out there, I am still tired from FASHION WEEK! I left nothing behind, and lived my best life during my first fashion week. 2 years ago I told my sister, Erica, that I wanted to go to fashion week. I kept telling myself I was going to go but never really made any efforts to go. Ahmad kept telling me to wait, and I am so glad that I listened to him. I think if I would have went 2 years ago, I would have went to a few shows which is good and all, but wouldn’t have networked and made any moves towards building my brand. Many of you have asked that I break down my NYFW by day, and lets just say if you are planning on attending make sure to rest prior because I was on the go non stop! I flew into NY Thursday, and planned that day as my travel day with no particular plans. I had a show to attend at 7pm, but decided to skip it because I wanted to unpack, get organized, and eat!

NYFW DAY 1

6am: Hair and Makeup (My hair literally lasted 2 hours because the humidity killed it! Hence why my hair is up in most of my NYFW pictures)

7am: NYFW look 1 shoot

I was so happy that Ahmad got to travel with me and shoot all of my looks. He was super busy though because he had other shoots scheduled throughout the trip. We had plan out our shoots which worked out perfectly.

8am: DSW Photoshoot with the Style Squad

It is always a fun time with these girls! We are so extra, and its funny because we never can get our faces on the same page. Some of us love to smile, and some of us i.e. me attempt to do the serious/sexy face which seems to be the only thing I do these days. After our shoot we all headed to grab a bite to eat before heading to our meeting at 360i with DSW.

10am: DSW meeting

11am: Rewardstyle HQ

12 noon: Lilla P Showroom

I met up with my girl pals, Nikki and Meghan, to check out the Lilla P showroom. The showroom is absolutely gorgeous, and I wanted to move in. Every interior detail was breathtaking, and they are so sweet! I love when you are able to finally meet the people that you have emailed back and forth with for weeks. was breaI am doing a fun collaboration with Lilla P, and can’t wait to share with you the pieces Im getting! If you have not checked them out, follow them on IG. Their timeless pieces can be worn now and for years to come, and the fabrication is so soft!

2pm: Asos Showroom

If you follow along and follow me on the LTK app, then you know that Asos is one of my go to sites to shop. To be able to go to their showroom and try on pieces was beyond a dream come true. We picked a few looks, and planned a night shoot with Ahmad. I am so freaking excited about how the photos came out. We (THE #girlgang #galpals #girlband) were so tired because it was 1am, and even though we had the longest day we still got out and shot these looks. I will share more of the photos and more about these babes, but now I’m starting to talk about Day 2, and we are still on Day 1! (PREVIEW OF OUR NIGHT SHOOT)

MEGHAN, NIKKI, BRANDY, SHAY

Ok so rewind back to the Asos showroom, Ahmad was downstairs waiting on us to finish up, and he was able to come up and check out the showroom as well. After we pulled all of our looks, it was time for a shoot. My look 2 of the day was of course an Asos piece!

4 pm: Nolcha Acc Preview (which I missed because I was exhausted and had to get back to the hotel to get ready for a party that evening)

Once I got back to the room and ate the best bacon burger, it was time for me to get ready for Lulu’s party. My dress was wrinkled and Ahmad (being the sweet and loving husband that he is) ironed my dress and put a whole in the top layer of the dress! I was panicking because I was literally about to slip the dress on and head out the door. Thank heavens that I can think quick on my feet, and he ran to the store and bought a pair of scissors, and I was able to fix the dress! No one could even tell what that dress had gone through…or what I had been through trying to make this dress work.

6 pm: Lulu’s Party

Lets just say, Lulu’s knows how to throw a PARTY! The esthetic and decor was to die for, and all of the goodies were perfect. The DJ was so good, I caught myself dancing a few times in my own little world. It is crazy that you are in a world full of influencers at a party, and you and your friends literally stick out in the crowd because you could count on one hand how many minorities were there. Not to bring race into the mix, but I am just saying if you are a woman of color, go out and make yourself present! Show them what we have to offer, and be YOU!

We had to dip out of the Lulu’s party a little early because we had another event, but Lulu’s is seriously my favorite. I love their dress choices, and will be sharing one of my picks on the blog soon. My sister was so excited that she got to go to the party with us because she has been shopping on Lulu’s site forever! I recall her saying I was her favorite person in the whole wide world, but I may have the verbiage of that sentence wrong!

7:30 pm: Urban Outfitters x Ohii Beauty Launch

We were of course fashionably late since we were coming from another party, but we were able to skip the line and head right on in to check out the new products. My favorite product from the launch was the Rose Lip Jelly. It comes in a small tube which was perfect to throw in my purse and apply as I was event hopping.

After the long day, we were all starving and headed to a cuban restaurant call Cafe Habana. If you are traveling to NYC anytime soon, I highly recommend you going. It is a small spot, but the food was on point. I had the steak taco and their homemade lemonade. Everyone else ordered the corn which smelled amazing, but I’m not a corn person so thats why I opted out for the tacos.

A short uber ride back to our hotel, and we were done for the day! Exhausted, but super excited that we had conquered our first day of fashion week. I know you are probably thinking, wait you didn’t go to any shows?! Well, I didn’t have time to go! I was on the go from the time I woke up that morning, and between meetings with brands and parties at night, the shows got skipped unfortunately.

I hope you have enjoyed my NYFW Day 1 recap, and feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I tried to not to bore you all with to many details.
