Ashton’s Birth Story

View Post jump arrow down

January 17, 2015 |  7am

I began to feel contractions as I was sitting at home preparing to go to work. They were around 10 minutes apart and coming on strong. I decided to go ahead and go to work due to we had a no call no show that morning, and I would only have to be there for an hour or two until the next person came in.

My husband picked me up from work around noon, and I went home to lay down and take a nap. I then realized that I could not sleep, because the pain was so bad. I stayed at home until my contractions were around 3 to 6 minutes apart. It was around 11:30pm at that time, and Ahmad decided to go ahead and take me to the hospital, because I was in so much pain.

Midnight came, and still no epidural, I was trying to be strong. The nurse then came in and said that I need to rest before I started pushing because I have been in labor since 7am the previous day. I went ahead and got the epidural around 2:30am. The whole time I kept trying to enjoy Ahmad and I last moments together, because once I started pushing, we would be a family of 3. Ahmad was so supportive, and as time passed my parents, in-laws, and my sister Erica all arrived in support. As they patiently waited in the waiting room, it was then 9:35am and I started pushing. I thought I was going to cry, but no tears came! It was just an exciting moment, and I realized how awesome GOD really is. To see your child be born, and the experience is beyond anything that I could ever imagine.

The moment finally came at 10am when I heard Ashton’s cry, and they handed him to me! Words can’t even describe how I felt at that moment. I was a MOM, Ahmad was a DAD, and we were now a family of 3. All of the pain, waiting, weight gain, preparation, decorating, shopping, cravings, and working were all worth it once I saw his handsome face.

The nurses were going to let Ahmad and I have an hour alone with Ashton before any family came in to meet him, but I knew my mom and mother-in-law were to anxious and not want to wait. They came in for a few seconds, and next thing I know the room was filled with family and friends. It was such a joyous occasion! I want to say thank you to everyone that came to visit us in the hospital, and meet our son. Love and support was definitely felt that day, and to Ashton’s god mother Trenace who drove from Dallas to visit him on his birthday, thank you sister!!!!

After breakfast and just holding Ashton, we got a knock on the door and it was the nurse to come take Ashton’s pictures. Now I’ve seen my pictures from when I was born, and they just wrapped me in the hospital blanket and took my mug shot. Times have obviously changed! They let me dress Ashton in a cute outfit, and then she took several pictures. (I will post the pictures as soon as the hospital sends me the USB.) Ahmad and I was able to hold him in one of the photos as well. You all know I love a photo shoot, so I thought it was super cute that Ashton was one day old, and had his first photo shoot!  I took a few pictures with my iPhone as she was snapping away, I just couldn’t resist.
